Wal-Mart works with IBM to enable suppliers to conduct Internet EDI
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is working with IBM Corp. to help the retailer’s suppliers meet its demand to participate in EDI transactions over the Internet.
Wal-Mart announced last month that all suppliers, regardless of size, would have to be on board with the Applicability Statement 2, a transaction standard that involves secure transmissions of EDI-over-Internet transactions. AS2 also supports high levels of collaboration between a retailer and its suppliers. AS2 was developed by the EDI over the Internet working group of the Internet Engineering Task Force, an industry group that works to facilitate commercial use of the Internet.
IBM said it would assist Wal-Mart suppliers in selecting and implementing the appropriate AS2-certified applications that best suit their needs. IBM is integrating AS2 software products with its WebSphere Business Integration Connect software, which offers business-to-business connectivity and integration among trading partners of all types and sizes.
