Online retail spending for the week ending Feb. 16 shot up 39% to $1.25 billion from $898 million in the corresponding week a year earlier, according to the latest numbers from comScore Networks Inc. The growth marks a return to the rocket growth of 30%+ that online retail spending experienced at the start of the year, before dropping down to 11-16% growth for a couple weeks.
Total retail sales also experienced strong growth for the period, up 25.2% for the week ending Feb. 14 vs. the same week a year earlier, reports ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate.
Online travel sales had an even hotter week than online retail sales, up 96% over the same week a year ago, reaching $1.19 billion from $608 million, comScore reports.
