Online retail spending for the week ending Feb. 22 was up 27% over the corresponding week a year ago, reaching $1.19 billion from $937 million, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Interestingly, total retail sales growth for the week ending Feb. 21 tracked online growth, up 26.3% from the same week a year ago, reported ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate.
“The recent weakness in consumer confidence reported by a number of experts is not reflected in consumer shopping trends,” says Michael Niemira, chief economist and director of research for the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Online travel spending for the week ending Feb. 22 was up 35% vs. year earlier sales, reaching $949 million from $703 million, comScore reports.
