Unicru Recognizes 18-Year Old Texas Cashier Who Represents Milestone in New Smart Technologies for Hiring Hourly Workers
Over 10 million applications have been processed using system that predicts
employee satisfaction and job tenure using intelligent assessment
technology.
PORTLAND, Ore. – July 16, 2002 – Unicru, the nation’s leading provider of
hiring management systems for the recruiting and retention of hourly
workers, today announced that it is the first company to have processed and
evaluated 10 million hourly job applications using a new generation of smart
hiring technology. Unicru has revolutionized an inefficient and expensive
paper-based process, offering an efficient automated system for retailers,
food service companies and call centers to rapidly identify candidates that
have the behaviors and skills to be successful, long-term, employees. The 10
millionth job applicant was a cashier who was hired at Texas-based Garden
Ridge, Inc., a home décor retailer.
“We’re pleased to be associated with a major milestone of Unicru’s hiring
management system,” said Kevin Rutherford vice president of human resources
for Garden Ridge. “Unicru has dramatically improved our operational
efficiency by transforming an archaic, paper-based process that took up to a
week, and reducing it to a simple process that can now be done in a day.”
Job candidates simply complete an electronic, paperless application
including tailored assessment questions using an on-site computer or screen
phone to apply for a position. Upon completion, each applicant’s response is
immediately transmitted to Unicru’s secure database where the information is
processed and evaluated against criteria derived from previous successful
employees. Almost immediately, the hiring manager is faxed or e-mailed an
easy-to-read application and candidate report that also recommends follow-up
interview questions for the first face-to-face meeting. Unicru is the only
company with this type of integrated platform. The company processes,
evaluates and reports on approximately one application per second during the
average eight-hour U.S. workday.
In respect of the applicant’s privacy, Unicru asked Garden Ridge to contact
the applicant on its behalf. According to Brad Pender, the 18-year old
cashier identified as the 10 millionth applicant, the process from
application to job offer was quicker than expected. He had applied at
several local stores when his mom suggested he apply at Garden Ridge. He
applied and was offered a job the next day. “I didn’t expect it to happen so
quickly,” Pender, a recent high school graduate, said. “It was easier than
filling out a paper application.” Unicru is recognizing Pender with $500 in
gift certificates from Unicru clients, including Kroger’s, Finish Line,
Bennigan’s, Hollywood Entertainment and Target.
“Besides reaching a significant milestone in our company history,” said
Chris Marsh, president and chief executive officer of Unicru, “it’s always
rewarding to hear how we make a difference to job seekers like Brad, and
clients like Garden Ridge. When both job seekers and employers find our
system to be efficient, it underscores the value we add to the hiring
process. With this milestone we are rapidly approaching the point where
using smart hiring technology such as Unicru will be an essential strategy
for business success.”
