J.C. Penney Co. Inc. has completed a Dallas store deployment of the web-based Connected Retailer POS 6.0 system from NSB Group to better manage in-store demand for products. Built on Microsoft Corp.’s .Net platform, the application easily integrates with the retailer’s price optimization system to support coordinated demand and pricing strategies, J.C. Penney says.
“We’ve been able to integrate our own managed pricing engine for price and promotions calculations, without needing access to the Connected Retailer POS 6.0 source code,” says Steve Raish, CIO of J.C. Penney. “This is a big benefit. We had clearly defined goals from the start, which was integral to the success of such a large and technically challenging project.”
J.C. Penney is running the Connected Retailer POS 6.0 system on Microsoft’s Windows XP Embedded, a “componentized” operating system that allows it to deploy a more manageable system for integrating multiple applications, Montreal-based NSB says. J. C. Penney plans to replace an in-house POS system with Connected Retailer in six stores within the next several weeks, then in all 1,100 stores over the next several years, NSB says.
The ease of integration will smooth the way for the retailer to install future software releases, NSB adds.
