Home Depot builds on the gift market with online registry

As online gift registries become a more popular way for general merchants to satisfy customers while increasing sales, Home Depot figures there’s room for its tools and houseware items. It’s offering about 9,000 items plus its gift cards through its new gift registry at HomeDepot.com.

Shelley Nandkeolyar, vice president of interactive marketing and ebusiness, says the Home Depot registry will cater to a growing of couples who prefer a broader range of gifts. "Research shows that a growing number of couples are registering for wedding gifts together," he says. "They are blending practical items, such as power tools and small appliances, with the more traditional tabletop and silver selections."

To promote its new registry service, Home Depot launched a sweepstakes this week through which customers can win everything posted in their registry up to a total value of $4,500.
