Online sales rocket up 40% for week ending March 14

Online consumer retail spending experienced stellar growth for the week ending March 14, up 40% to $1.22 billion from $873 million from the corresponding week a year ago, comScore Networks Inc. reports.

By contrast, total retail sales for the week ending March 13 were down 4.9% from the same week a year ago, reports ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate. ShopperTrak attributes the slowdown in total retail sales to cooler weather and the fact that Easter, the next major shopping holiday, was still a month away.

Online travel spending for the week ending March 14 was up 79% over the same week a year ago, reaching $1.16 billion from $650 million, comScore reports.
