Executives Named For Positions in Asia-Pacific and Customer Care

MINNEAPOLIS — August 19, 2002 ¾ Retek Inc. (Nasdaq: RETK) today announced executive appointments to broaden its global organization and strengthen its commitment to customers. The appointments include Ian Johnston as president of Retek Asia Pacific and Staci Hartman as vice president of Customer Care.

Ian Johnston is an experienced retail information technology industry veteran and has worked for Retek for the past eight years. Originally based in North America, Johnston most recently served as managing director of Retek’s Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, based in the United Kingdom. In this new position Johnston will lead sales efforts in the Asia-Pacific region including expansion into new markets. Johnston will oversee all Asia-Pacific operations, focusing on Korea and Japan, and will be based out of Melbourne, Australia. Prior to joining Retek, Johnston held various senior management positions with several international retailers.

Staci Hartman joins Retek from Vignette Corp. where she served as senior director of services and managed a global services operation. Prior to Vignette, Hartman spent time working in and managing teams with Accenture, Wonderware, The Fourth Tier and Microsoft, and also gained international experience with Sonera and EBM Techneik. Hartman will oversee Retek`s new customer care organization, specifically dedicated to ensuring customer success with their Retek implementation. This includes multiple facets such as upgrading the technical support offerings to meet the holistic support needs of Retek’s customers, and investing in account management and customer programs such as surveys, councils and user groups. Hartman has an electrical engineering degree from the University of North Dakota, and will be based in Minneapolis.
