Half.com, a company owned by eBay specializing in discount pricing on books,
CDs, movies, consumer electronics and other items, is rolling out a Price Patrol service. The feature, which Half describes as a shopping companion, lets consumers compare prices at Half.com with prices at other online retailers. Consumers can download Price
Patrol from Half.com for free. While shopping on a specific product detail
page at another Internet retailer, the small Price Patrol alert pops up.
Consumers click on the alert and a new browser page opens, taking them
directly to the same product detail page at Half.com. Even if the item isn’t
currently listed on Half.com, consumers can easily find the lowest price for
that item using the site’s comparison shopping agent.
By the end of the
summer, Half.com will expand Price Patrol to include the hundreds of new
products now available on the site in the computers, sporting goods,
consumer electronics and trading cards. Clickthebutton.com, a
developer of comparison technology, built the Price Patrol program.
