Federated hires CommerceHub for drop-shipping management

Federated Department Stores Inc.’s Macys.com has licensed CommerceHub Inc. software to manage its drop-shipping network. The application allows Federated to connect to all its drop-shipping suppliers through a single link to CommerceHub.

Federated has been using a combination of EDI and other communications methods, says Frank Poore, president of Clifton Park, NY-based CommerceHub. The value of going to an Internet-based system is that all suppliers can use it. The Internet does not require special technology or connections as EDI systems do. In addition, as a real-time, two-way system, an Internet-based system can keep both sides aware of developments. “EDI only tells you what’s happening; it doesn’t tell you what’s not happening,” Poore says.

Federated has licensed CommerceHub’s Universal Connection Hub platform together with its Drop-Ship Master, Service-Level Manager, and Inventory Manager modules to develop and manage the drop-ship fulfillment program.

Among CommerceHub’s customers are QVC, Target, Sears, Staples, ShopNBC and Costco.
