Infotopia finds a new, cheaper home in the Midwest
As profit pressures mount, many dot-coms are relocating from high-priced East and West Coast locations which offer the benefit of density of experienced technology personnel to locations that offer the benefit of cheaper rents. The latest to do so is Infotopia Inc., which sells health and fitness products on the web. Infotopia said this week it is relocating corporate offices from Raynham, MA, to Canfield, OH, as part of its efforts to reduce expenses.
"This corporate move is a part of a strategic and carefully planned process of establishing a solid infrastructure that Infotopia requires in order to sustain the fast paced growth it is experiencing,” said Alan Ricks, vice president of operations. “After evaluation of other areas of the country we concluded that the relatively low operational cost of Midwestern location along with the lower labor expense would enable us to keep our corporate overhead low. The location will keep us in close proximity to New York financial markets."
In addition, Infotopia announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with EntrePort Corp. to sell Infotopia to EntrePort, subject to EntrePort’s shareholders’ approval.
