Online Santa bell-ringers
In the ongoing effort to make online shopping more like offline, MSN Shopping is instituting an electronic Sidewalk Santa. MSN Shopping will pay 25 cents to Volunteers of America for every product search at its site, whether the search results in a purchase or not. MSN will cap its contribution at $25,000, equivalent to 100,000 searches.
MSN says the contributions will “help make up for donations that may be lost from people who shop online instead of going to the mall.”
The money will be used to support Volunteers of America’s Hope and Hearth food voucher program, which helps provide food to individuals and families. In addition to its donation, MSN Shopping will offer links that allow customers to donate money to Volunteers of America.
