As Yogi Berra said, it ain’t over until it’s over. But it will finally be over for good next week for shuttered same-day Internet delivery service Kozmo.com when its remaining capital assets go up for bid at a San Jose hotel. The company, which closed in April, is one of more than 20 defunct or downsized dot-com companies whose surplus assets will be auctioned off June 26-27 by Foster City, CA-based liquidator DoveBid. The auction will sell off items from Kozmo and others including such companies as MSHOW.com, Alphadog and CompUSnet that range from computer, networking, and telecommunications equipment to office furnishings and offices toys like foosball tables and scooters.
Bidders can attend live or by webcast. The third such “Dot-Com Exchange” in three months -- in which DoveBid aggregates the assets of several dot-com companies in one sale -- is expected to attract more than 1,000 bidders. “The growth of these auctions harnesses two benefits for buyers,” says Kirk Dove, the company’s president of auction services and chief auctioneer. “That is, good deals on fairly new equipment and the ability to participate over the Internet. At times, we’ve had as many as 100 bidders from the Internet actively competing for the same asset.”
