Online greeting card traffic slides in May

NetScore traffic rankings from comScore Networks Inc. and DoubleClick Inc.’s Diameter show that traffic at online greeting card sites leveled off in May. Bluemountain.com’s traffic dropped to 16.7 million unique visitors in May from 18.6 million in April. The fall was enough to drop Bluemountain two positions in comScore’s the top sites rankings to #23.

Americangreetings.com’s traffic slipped to 13.2 million unique visitors in May from 13.8 million in April. It, too, dropped two positions in the top sites ranking to #33. Analysts at netScore say the fact that online greeting cards are free and easy to access may make them less valuable to consumers. "Greetings for some special occasions--Mother`s Day for example--are likely to appear more heartfelt when a price tag is affixed to them," said Maurice Boissierre, general manager of netScore.
