MindArrow gets payment transaction patent

One of the drawbacks, from a retailer’s point of view, of having customers pay for merchandise at a separate payments page is that the payment process takes customers away from the store environment. Aliso Viejo, CA-based MindArrow Systems Inc., which provides digital marketing services, has just received a patent that will keep customers in the shopping window.

The patent applies to e-commerce technology that MindArrow recently obtained when it bought Control Commerce Inc. The patent, called “Method and Apparatus for Facilitating Computer Network Transactions,” covers ways to secure transactions within a separate payment window superimposed on a web site, HTML page or e-mail message. The technology allows recipients to make online transactions without leaving the web page or e-mail message they are viewing. The company says that with this system, merchants have greater control over the customer’s visit, the purchase process and data acquisition for future contact.
