ValueVision relaunches its converged web/TV site
ValueVision International Inc. today rebranded both its home shopping channel and companion Internet site to ShopNBC and ShopNBC.com. “The site relaunch and rebranding to ShopNBC.com is a key component in ValueVision`s unfolding strategy to deliver an enhanced on- and off-line shopping experience to consumers,” the company said.
"ShopNBC.com is much more than a new name, a new look or even a new web
address," said Kevin Hanson, senior vice president and CTO of ValueVision.
"It represents our continuing efforts to set new industry standards as we
revitalize our online shopping channel by capitalizing on the convergence of
television, technology and commerce."
As part of its existing agreement with Yahoo! Inc., ShopNBC`s programming will be featured on Yahoo! ShoppingVision, a rich media extension of Yahoo! Shopping. ShopNBC is a featured content provider and provides live programming, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as archived video content. ShopNBC also has media placements throughout Yahoo! Shopping`s network of properties.
Expanding its traditional program distribution, ShopNBC was the first
network to broadcast simultaneously on TV and the web around the clock through its multi-channel programming on ShopNBC.com`s Channel 1. Data encoding on Channel 1 ensures that price points and special offers stay synchronized in real time both on-air and online. ShopNBC.com provides the site with an additional revenue stream by offering consumers alternative merchandise through its second Internet channel, which streams live programming via webcasting. Channel 2 also offers interactive chat features between consumers and program hosts.
The site will feature 3D animation and close-up imaging of all ShopNBC.com merchandise. ShopNBC.com offers consumers additional information on all merchandise through video-on-demand technology. The company says these features do not require consumers to have a broadband connection or download additional plug-ins
Also beginning today, ShopNBC will offer consumers interactive click-and-buy technology on a 24-hour basis, 365 days a year. The company says it is the first national network to do so. More than 3 million viewers have shopping-enabled remote controls that will allow them to buy merchandise from ShopNBC in select markets.
