Online sales on Visa cards rise 49% year-over-year at end of November
Online sales transacted on U.S.-based Visa credit and debit cards, including travel sales, rose 49.2% to nearly $1.6 billion for the week ended Nov. 23, up from $1.065 billion during the same period last year, Visa reports. By comparison, total volume on U.S.-based Visa cards rose 14.3% to $19.5 billion from $17.06 billion.
Figured another way, the value of Visa’s online transactions rose to 8.2% of Visa’s overall transactions from 6.2%. Visa said the average online purchase for the same week rose 12.8% year-to-year, to $75.09 from $66.59.
The number of e-commerce transactions on Visa cards, meanwhile, rose 32.3%, to 21.17 million from 16 million. The number of overall Visa transactions rose 16.9%, to 327 million from 279.8 million.
