Hanover Direct gets 2 new top executives
Hanover Direct, which operates a group of multi-channel apparel and home furnishings retail brands, said chairman, president and CEO Thomas C. Shull has resigned and been replaced by William B. Wachtel as chairman and by Wayne P. Garten as president and CEO.
Both Wachtel and Garten have been members of Hanover’s board of directors since last fall. Wachtel is a managing partner of law firm Wachtel & Mayr LLP and the manager of Chelsey Direct LLC, an investment firm that owns part of Hanover.
Garten, a veteran retailer and a Certified Public Accountant, has served as president since January of Caswell-Massey Ltd. Inc., a retailer and direct marketer of fragrance and other personal care products. Prior to Casell-Massey, Garten was CEO of Popular Club Inc., a catalog merchant of apparel and general merchandise; executive vice president and CFO of Micro Warehouse Inc., a cataloger of computer products; and a financial executive at Hanover Direct and its predecessor company, The Horn and Hardart Co.
Hanover made no statement regarding why Shull resigned. "On behalf of the board, I want to express our gratitude to Tom for his significant contributions to the company over the past several years," Garten said.
Hanover`s retail brands include Domestications, The Company Store, Company Kids, Silhouettes, International Male, Scandia Down and Gump`s.
