Amazon adds licensing center to its Software Stores
Amazon.com has added a licensing center to its Software Store, offering
small, midsize and home businesses an opportunity to save up to 20% off full
retail pricing on software products for multiple users. Instead of buying
several copies of software packages, organizations can purchase a license
for each individual user. The company says sales of open-license
software to small and medium-sized business are projected to be a $2 billion
business this year, a 48% increase over last year. Customers will be able to
customize the quantity of products they need and tailor their purchasing
levels to fit the organization and the software licensing center will
give customers upgrading options. License Online Inc., a provider of
software licensing solutions over the Internet, will provide volume software
licensing technology to the Amazon licensing center.
