Sharper Image’s Q1 web sales rise 58% to $26 million
With strong sales of its own branded products, Sharper Image Corp.’s web sales rose 58% for the quarter ended April 30, to $26.2 million from $16.6 million a year ago, the company said today. By contrast, Q1 total sales rose 35%, to $152.7 million from $113.5 million, while comp store sales increased 8%. "Our first-quarter record sales exceeded our expectations," said chairman, CEO and founder Richard Thalheimer.
The pace slowed somewhat in April, when year-to-year web sales rose 36%, to $8.3 million from $6.1 million; total sales rose 20% to $46 million from $38.5 million; and comp store sales declined 3%.
Sales continue to be driven primarily by Sharper Image’s own designed and branded products, which account for more than 70% of total sales, Thalheimer said.
In addition to its web site at SharperImage.com and its catalog, the company runs television infomercials and operates more than 150 stores, including 5 opened in April. It plans to open a total of 26 new stores this year, Thalheimer said.
