Big Y installs web-linked shopping carts
Big Y Foods Inc. is installing video promotional monitors with connections to the Internet on shopping cart handles. The devices come from Klever Marketing Inc.
Salt Lakle City-based Klever markets the Klever-Kart, a wireless patented communication platform for delivering ads, promotions, news items, store directories, and other information to shoppers. Klever-Kart, which consists of a small PDA-like device attached to the shopping cart handle, is linked to Klever Marketing`s servers via the Internet. Klever-Kart, which has an LCD screen mounted on the handle of a shopping cart, allows shoppers to access product location and alerts them to promotions, specials and advertisements as they are making selections. Klever-Kart also provides shoppers with Internet content, such as news, weather and meal planning with nutritional information.
Klever-Kart will be installed initially in three Big Y locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts in the fourth quarter, followed by a chainwide roll out into Big Y`s remaining 43 stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Supermarkets in the west are testing Klever-Karts and some Midwestern supermarkets are deploying them, the company says.
