Capitalizing on one of its strengths as a clicks-and-bricks retailer, Sears is testing
store pick-up of merchandise for online buyers and plans to roll the service out to all online and catalog shoppers in time for the holiday shopping season. The retailer is currently testing the service at several locations across the country with a cross-section of products. The concept allows customers to order items via the catalog or online and pick them up at a nearby Sears store.
“We’re giving customers the option to shop how they want,” says Dennis Honan, general manager of Sears Customer Direct, Sears’ catalog and online division. Customers may want to use the pick-up option to avoid shipping charges or because it is easier to pick up items instead of dealing with delivery times, he says.
