Greenfield Online reports the five top sellers on the web
Books, CDs, clothing, computer software and airline tickets continue to be the top items that consumers purchase on the Internet, according to Greenfield Online’s Digital Consumer Shopping Index released this week. That lineup has held for the three of the last four quarters, with the only variation coming in the fourth quarter when toys pushed airline tickets off the list. Clothing and airline tickets have moved up in the rankings significantly in the past year, Greenfield says.
In the first quarter, over 80% of those with incomes above $75,000 purchased something online, says Greenfield, a market research company based in Wilton, CT. Women continue to purchase online at a slightly higher rate than men (71% vs. 69%) for the fourth consecutive quarter.
The rankings are based on surveys of 3,000 experienced Internet users conducted online between April 10 and May 3. Although web users of all levels are included, most participants in the study have been online at least two years.
