The high price of oil and the higher gasoline prices that it portends are once again prompting consumers to say they’re going to do more shopping online.
In a survey earlier this week by Shopzilla, 50% of consumers said higher gasoline prices will make them shop online somewhat more (29.27%) or a lot more (20.34%).
When Shopzilla asked the same question after damage caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita pushed gasoline prices to $3 a gallon, 24.5% said they’d shop online somewhat more and 15% a lot more.
With oil at $75 a barrel, some forecasters see gasoline at $4 a gallon by summer. BizRate.com, a division of comparison-shopping site Shopzilla, surveyed 3,147 online consumers from April 11-18.
