Ask.com’s Berkowitz joins Microsoft, Lanzone named new Ask.com CEO

Former Ask.com CEO Steve Berkowitz has joined Microsoft as senior vice president of its newly formed online business group, which includes MSN.com, MSN AdCenter, MSNTV, and Windows Live.

As president at Ask.com, a unit of IAC/InterActiveCorp, Berkowitz oversaw the redesign of the search site, improving ease of use and removing pop-ups and banner ads from the site in favor of more contextually relevant search experience, IAC said.

Meanwhile, IAC/InterActiveCorp, the parent company of Ask.com, named Jim Lanzone to replace Berkowitz. Lanzone joined Ask.com as vice president of product management in 2001. Previously, he was co-founder and president of eTour, an early provider of information retrieval and cost-per-lead services.

“Jim is one of the most respected leaders in the search industry, having been principally responsible every day for the turnaround of the Ask product and brand over the past several years,” said Doug Lebda, IAC president and COO. “With his vision for the future and successful track record for driving the Ask.com business, he has been and will be the ideal leader for the next stage of the company’s growth.”
