CDW’s net sales grow 55% from year ago, while overall sales are up 5%

Online sales at Vernon Hills, Ill.-based CDW Computer Centers Inc. grew 55% in the second quarter to $152.8 million from the second quarter a year ago. Web sales were up 1% over Q1.

"Approximately 65% of our total company sales were generated from the more than 96,000 active users of CDW@work, our custom-tailored web site program. These customers place orders either online or directly with the account manager, consistent with CDW`s `clicks and people` strategy,” said chairman and CEO John A. Edwardson.

Companywide sales for the quarter were $995 million vs. $943.3 million for the same period in 2000, an increase of 5%. Net income rose 7% to $43 million from $40 million for 2000’s second quarter.

Net sales for the first six months of 2001 totaled $1.982 billion, up 10% from prior year. Year to date net income totaled $83.5 million, up 11%.
