Amazon offers wireless access through new deal with AT&T Wireless

Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. has launched a new alliance with AT&T Wireless giving all AT&T Digital PocketNet customers access to Amazon.com’s wireless web site via their Internet-ready wireless phones.

The service utilizes Amazon’s proprietary technology and Amazon Anywhere platform, which incorporates many of Amazon.com’s patented features, such as 1-Click Technology ordering, recommendations, customer reviews and search on all products. Amazon Anywhere now has global alliances with 12 mobile phone carriers and service providers worldwide.

Using their wireless Internet-ready phones, AT&T Digital PocketNet customers can purchase from nearly all of Amazon’s stores, including books, music, video, DVD, electronics, kitchen and housewares and outdoor living. Wireless users also can use Amazon’s list features.

Amazon Anywhere was launched October 1999. Amazon says more than 500,000 customers in the U.S. and Europe access Amazon wirelessly.
