Fingerhut will offer Internet access to consumers
It worked for BlueLight.com, so why not for Fingerhut Cos. Inc. Fingerhut, a direct marketer, is offering consumers Internet access through AT&T WorldNet Service. The full-featured Internet service will cost consumers $4.95 a month. The user will launch Fingerhut.com.
Kmart Corp. caused a stir last year when it offered free Internet access to consumers. It signed up 5 million users in less than a year. Earlier this year it put restrictions on the service, limiting consumers to 25 free hours per month. Fingerhut and Kmart both target the lower to middle income consumer who may not have Intenret access through other means and who are likely to respond to a low-cost service.
Besides Internet access, Fingerhut customers will receive up to six e-mail addresses and up to 60 MB for a personal web page, instant messaging, online communities, chat and newsgroups, online customer support, e-mail screen to eliminate junk e-mail and child safety software and anti-spam software.
