Wine sales through Nexternal’s e-commerce software totaled more than $12.4 million in the first quarter of 2006, up 46% from $8.5 million in the first quarter 2005. Nexternal provides e-commerce software that powers web sales for nearly 200 wineries and wine retailers.
In 2005, the average wine order through Nexternal’s shopping cart software was $235. In the first quarter of 2006, the average wine order increased by 56% to $367.
As a result of a recent Supreme Court ruling, wineries and wine retailers are able to ship directly to consumers in more states than a year ago. “We are very happy with the Supreme Court’s ruling and are glad that more people can now easily gain access to the wines our clients sell online,” says Nexternal’s direct wine sales expert Doreen Woo. “We expect wine sales through our e-commerce software to total more than $50 million this year as more wine drinkers go online to buy their wine.”
