RealNetworks’ Q1 revenue grows 13% over year ago
First-quarter revenue for RealNetworks Inc., which provides digital media services and software, grew 13% to $86.6 million from $76.6 million in Q1 a year ago, the company reports. Net income was $24.9 million vs. $800,000 a year ago. The company reports more than 2.4 million subscribers. RealNetworks owns the Rhapsody music service, is the developer of RealPlayer and develops computer and online games.
"We are off to a strong start for 2006 with record revenue in the first quarter," said Rob Glaser, chairman and CEO. "Real`s tradition of innovation continues to bear fruit, most recently with the announcement of our Click-to-Stream patent that we believe positions Real`s Helix Community at the center of the exploding digital media marketplace."
RealNetworks reports:
• Games revenue of $18.6 million, up 53% over Q1 2005;
• Music revenue of $28.9 million, up 26%;
• RealPlayer, related consumer products and other revenue of $27.3 million, a decrease of 6%;
• Technology Products and Solutions segment revenue of $11.8 million, down 5%.
