Blockbuster.com adds a discount outlet

Blockbuster Inc. has launched an outlet center as the newest addition to its e-commerce site.

The new outlet center lets shoppers search by new release, Blockbuster recommendations and through a virtual bargain bin. A quick search tool also lets shoppers look for movies by price, format, gift suggestions and MPAA ratings.

As an incentive to members of Total Access, its online retailing program that gives subscribers the option of returning their online rental DVDs by mail or exchanging them at participating Blockbuster stores, the company is giving members an additional 10% off. That discount is on top of another 20% special all shoppers can use if they use a special promotional code and make a purchase before Oct. 31.

The outlet store, which is highlighted as a new category on the Blockbuster.com home page, also gives customers a 50 day quality assurance guarantee and lets customers redeem gift certificates and purchase previously viewed movies.

The outlet center, which Blockbuster opened in late May, is growing, says a company spokesman. The outlet center now carries about 3,400 titles and shoppers can also purchase a full range of more than 30,000 new titles.

“This is a nice extension to Blockbuster Online because it gives shoppers and Total Access members more ways to acquire DVDs,” the spokesman says.

Blockbuster is No. 51 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
