Alliance combines Drugstore.com traffic with Revolution Health Network

Drugstore.com, a web-only retailer whose products include health, beauty and pharmacy goods, has signed an agreement to aggregate its web site traffic with Revolution Health Network, bringing the network’s unique visitors tally to more than 9 million per month. Revolution Health, a health-related portal site that features social networking, also will manage advertising sales for Drugstore.com.

The alliance means the Revolution Health Network now generates more than 100 million monthly page views, the company says. It also positions Drugstore.com to develop new revenue from advertising sales, because Revolution Health Network is expected to deliver a significant quantity of premium, targeted, impressions to advertisers in a key demographic: women who actively manage their health and their family’s health.

“This venture is a natural extension of Drugstore.com’s position as a significant player in e-commerce,” says Dawn Lepore, chairman and CEO of Drugstore.com, No. 35 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. “We are pleased to be building on our current partnership with Revolution Health to capitalize on the rapidly growing opportunity for health-related advertising, thus adding a new revenue stream to the Drugstore.com mix as we seek to capitalize on the e-commerce platform we’ve built over the past decade.”

The two companies’ previous e-commerce relationship called for Drugstore.com to power RevolutionHealth.com’s online store.

“Deepening the relationship with Drugstore.com enables Revolution Health to provide a tremendous value proposition for the growing number of advertisers seeking to reach consumers in the rapidly expanding health category,” says Steve Case, chairman and CEO of Revolution Health. “This exclusive agreement also allows us to better integrate our health and medical content, interactive tools and online community with the variety of health products and offerings at Drugstore.com. The end result is that we are making it easier for people to take action to improve their health while rapidly expanding our reach.”

Case, also co-founder of AOL, established Revolution Health to provide health care products and services for consumers. RevolutionHealth.com is a free consumer health and medical web site that combines expert content, online tools and social networking that encourages interaction among users.
