Toys “R” Us grows 2005 web sales 17%

Annual sales at ToysRUs.com totaled $429 million in 2005, up 17% from $366 million in 2004.

In 2005 online sales represented 3.8% of Toys “R” Us Inc.’s total $11.3 billion in sales compared with 3.3% of 2004’s total sales of $11.1 billion. “The net sales increase for ToysRUs.com was driven by approximately 13% growth in total orders and a 5% increase in average order dollar value, which contributed to a 27% growth in baby product sales and 17% growth in toy sales, partially offset by a 5% decline in video game sales,” the company stated in its recently filed 10K report.

Toys “R” Us, No. 26 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, operates three web sites in addition to ToysRUs.com: Imaginarium.com, SportsRUs.com and BabiesRUs.com.

As a result of a decision handed down by New Jersey Superior Court judge Margaret Mary McVeigh in March, Toys ‘R’ Us is going ahead with plans to terminate its e-commerce and merchandising agreement with Amazon.com by June 30. The two companies signed their agreement in August 2000.
