Communicate.com hires a director of business development

Online retailer and media company Communicate.com Inc. has hired Mark Melville to fill the newly created role of chief corporate development officer.

Melville joins Communicate.com from the Monitor Group, a strategic consulting and investment firm, where he worked with senior executives of Fortune 500 companies on strategic initiatives. He was co-leader of Monitor’s West Coast technology practice. Prior to joining Monitor, Melville was CEO of SteelTrace, a provider of business process and requirements management software, which he sold to Compuware Corp. in 2006. Prior to SteelTrace, Melville was vice president of corporate development at MobShop, an early e-commerce company. And before that, he was a senior member of Exchange.com, which was sold to Amazon.com in 1999.

“Mark’s appointment is consistent with our plan to create a world class organization of builders,” says Geoffrey Hampson, chairman & CEO of Communicate.com. “Hundreds of millions of dollars have recently been invested in comparable Internet companies and more are now in the IPO process, which is an indicator of the intense financial interest in our space and the potential size of the market. Mark will play a key role in guiding the company`s growth strategy, and will drive mergers & acquisitions and business development activities that we believe will translate into value creation for our shareholders.”

Communicate.com’s Perfume.com is No. 469 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
