It’s the same story again at Spiegel: Web sales up, total sales down
In what has become a familiar routine, web-based sales at the Spiegel Group grew in July while all other sales shrank. Internet sales at Spiegel increased 46% in July over last July, while companywide sales dropped 10%, Spiegel reported today.
July revenue for the Downers Grove, IL-based retailer were $160 million, down from $178.7 million last July. Spiegel does not separate out the web sales numbers.
Spiegel sells its Eddie Bauer, Newsport News and Spiegel brands through stores, catalogs and the web. In July, store sales fell 1%, while catalog sales fell 26%. By division for the month, sales fell 2% at Eddie Bauer, although Eddie Bauer store sales fell 9%; Newport News sales dropped 14% and Spiegel sales fell 22%.
For the thirty weeks ended July 28, total sales declined 5% to $1.446 billion from $1.518 billion in the same period last year, the company said.
