Handango, a provider of mobile content, has named Carl Sparks as chief marketing officer. Sparks is former senior vice president of marketing and retail operations for the Hotels.com division of Expedia Inc. Handango reports that Spark has fifteen years’ experience in consumer marketing, corporate strategy, consulting, branding and product marketing with Guinness, Capital One, Boston Consulting Group and PepsiCo.

Sparks was general manager of Hotels.com, Expedia’s second largest operating unit, with $1 billion in annual sales. He led all marketing and merchandising efforts for Hotels.com, including major online and offline branding initiatives, customer acquisition and a complete redesign of the web site, which receives nearly ten million unique users per month.

"Handango is in a unique and enviable position in the mobile content market,” Sparks said “This industry is at the tipping point and about to explode in terms of consumer adoption. Handango is poised to drive this trend with the largest portfolio of content, a leading position with carrier and handset manufacturer partners, and the most extensive direct-to-consumer franchise for mobile applications."

Handango provides more than 190,000 digital titles, is the mobile content delivery platform for Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile, Orange, Microsoft, HP, Sega Mobile, AOL and more than 100 others.
