Motherhood.com adopts $5 flat fee for U.S. shipments
Motherhood.com, an online retailer of maternity apparel, is charging customers a $5 flat fee for shipments within the U.S. There is no limit to the amount that can be purchased, or on the weight of the order.
“Our priority has always been to offer the best quality and service to all of our customers, and I’m thrilled to be able to provide this new low shopping fee,” says Rebecca Matthias, president and chief creative officer of Motherhood Maternity.
The offer applies to orders placed through Motherhood.com using standard ground shipping within the U.S. and to U.S. military post office addresses. Expedited shipping within the U.S. is available at $15.
Previously, shipping fees were based on the weight and destination of the order, a spokeswoman says.
Although many online retailers are offering free shipping for the holidays, the $5 flat shipping fee will likely appeal to Motherhood.com’s customers, says Lauren Freedman, president of Chicago-based The E-Tailing Group.
“For that mother, she’s probably time-starved to begin with,” Freedman says. “Convenience is the number one priority, even more so than cost savings. And to pay $5 to save time, the audience will respond to it.”
Motherhood Maternity also operates Motherhood Plus and Motherhood Nursing stores.
