QVC shuffles its technology deck, naming John Sullivan as CIO

QVC Inc. has reorganized its information technology management structure and hired John Sullivan as executive vice president and chief information officer. Sullivan will oversee QVC’s I.T. department, including application development, technology, production services and telecommunications. His responsibilities include the strategic use of technology and information within the organization to increase revenue, reduce costs and improve efficiencies, the company says.

Prior to joining QVC, Sullivan spent 11 years with Liz Claiborne Inc., serving most recently as senior vice president of sourcing and service systems/CIO. He began his career there as vice president of information systems and customer service. Prior to Claiborne, he held I.T. leadership positions at Goody’s Family Clothing, Ames Department Stores, Johnson & Associates and Knapp Shoes.

The CIO position was previously held by Rob Cochran who takes on the newly created position of chief I.T. technical officer. As QVC moves into the future, the removal of legacy systems and the introduction of new mobile technologies and application development becomes critical, the company says, and Cochran will lead that aspect of its I.T. infrastructure team. Cochran has been with QVC since 1987.

Home shopping retailer QVC Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Media Corp., is No. 14 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

As part of a renewed emphasis on e-commerce, QVC.com was re-launched earlier this month with a new home page that features a cleaner layout, better organization, larger graphics and more video. Liberty Media’s web strategy relies on an updated web site design and social networking to turn QVC Corp. into a preeminent multimedia retailer. The redesigned site features the integration of more video and rich media, the company says. To promote social networking QVC.com also is adding customer reviews, interactive polls, blogs, live chats with QVC hosts and celebrities, and moderated forums.
