Google upgrades its web analytics tool to monitor site search activity

Google Inc. will soon enable users of its Google Analytics application to run analytical reports that show the site search keywords shoppers choose and the effect on e-commerce activity, Google says.

Located in the Content section of the Google Analytics reporting interface, site search reports will also show the pages from which site visitors begin and end their site searches, Google says on its Google Analytics Blog. It notes that the site search reports will be available “in the coming weeks.”

“You can also see how search on your site affects usage, conversion rates and e-commerce activity,” Google adds.

Google, which provides its analytics application for free, also recently launched the free Google Custom Search Engine for deploying site search on one or multiple web sites. The Custom Search Engine can be coordinated with participation in the Google AdSense program, through which web site operators can host and earn fees for paid Internet search ads.

Other coming enhancements to Google Analytics include the ability to track and analyze how site visitors interact with Ajax, Flash and other rich media applications, Google says.
