Banana Republic launches petites line exclusively online

Banana Republic, a division of The Gap Inc., this week launched a line of petite clothing to be sold exclusively online.

Banana Republic says 43% of U.S. females (45 million) fit today's definition of the petite woman -- 5'4" and under. It says, however, that the actual number of petite women could be much greater than this number, as many women over 5'4" may also be considered petite, though they do not realize it.

San Francisco-based Banana Republic will offer 36 styles of petite fashions.

Banana Republic’s petite section will also feature such web tools as "Are You Petite?," an area that helps consumers determine if they are petite on any part of their body and which petite size will fit them best, and a comprehensive "Petite Fit Guide," that visually illustrates how differently regular sizes and petite sizes fit petite women.
