Mother’s Day week spending increases 16% to $195.8 million
Online spending in the flowers, gifts and greetings category grew 16% to $195.8 million in the week ending on Mother’s Day, May 14, compared with $168.5 million for the same period in 2005, according to comScore.com.
“Online retail spending related to Mother’s Day exhibited strong growth over last year, as increasing numbers of consumers continue to become more comfortable making their purchases online,” said Rob Harles, senior vice president of comScore Networks.
There were nearly 18 million unique visits to flowers, gifts and greetings sites in the week leading up to Mother’s Day, 60% higher than the average of 11 million visitors in the five weeks prior to Mother’s Day week, comScore found.
The sites with the most Mother’s Day week traffic were FTD.com, 4.2 million; American Greetings, 3.3 million; Hallmark, 3.2 million; ProFlowers.com, 2.5 million; 1-800-Flowers.com, 2.3 million; and RedEnvelope.com, 669,000.
