QVC Inc. is reporting strong U.S. e-commerce sales for the first quarter. In Q1 2006, QVC, an operating segment of Liberty Media Corp., posted domestic e-commerce revenue of $218 million, an increase of 25.7% over U.S. web sales of $173.4 million in the first quarter of 2005.
For Q1 2006, the web represented 20% of QVC’s total U.S. sales of $1.09 billion compared with 17% of total domestic sales of $1.02 billion for Q1 2005. Also in the first quarter, Michael George became QVC’s new president and CEO. He replaces outgoing CEO Doug Briggs who retired. George came to QVC from Dell Inc., where he was the chief marketing officer and general manager of Dell’s U.S. consumer business.
QVC, No. 14 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, registered web sales of $1 billion in 2005, compared with e-commerce revenue of $739 million in 2004, an increase of 37.6%. Bob Myers, vice president of QVC.com merchandise, marketing and business development, will speak at the Internet Retailer 2006 Conference & Exhibition in a session titled When TV and the Internet Merge, Web Shopping Explodes.
