Shopatron promotes Brian Clausen to president and raises $6 million

Shopatron Inc., a provider of e-commerce systems for branded manufacturers, has promoted executive vice president Brian Clausen to president of North American operations, a new position. Shopatron also recently received $6 million in venture capital and hired a new vice president of client services.

Clausen will oversee all North American operations and direct Shopatron’s planned expansion into new markets, the company says.

San Luis Obispo, CA-based Shopatron provides e-commerce technology that enables more than 400 consumer products manufacturers to accept online orders and fulfill them through a network of about 6,000 retailers. When it received $6 million in funding earlier this month from a team of investors led by private equity firm Kern Whelan Capital, it said it planned to use the capital to expand into new manufacturing markets, develop new services and expand its management team. Among its plans for services is an expansion of the option it has begun offering clients to let shoppers order online and pick up at a partner retail store.

“With our recent round of funding, Shopatron has the resources to capitalize on the momentum created by its rapid growth into 30 industries,” says Ed Stevens, founder and CEO of Shopatron. “We feel we have only scratched the surface of the company’s potential.”

Prior to joining Shopatron, Clausen served as vice president of sales and marketing at interactive agency Web Associates. Earlier, he was on the management team of supply software provider Vigilance, now a part of SSA Global, and managed enterprise software implementations at Deloitte Consulting.

“As much as e-commerce has progressed in the last decade, there is still a tremendous amount of innovation to be made in how the Internet integrates retailers and manufacturers,” Clausen says. “Shopatron addresses these emerging needs and has the opportunity to offer a sustainable, long-term e-commerce solution for manufacturers of consumer goods.”

Mark Grondin, who had worked with Clausen at Web Associates, has been hired as Shopatron’s vice president of client services. He will supervise account management, online marketing and web site interface design. At Web Associates, Grondin managed online strategies for clients including Hewlett-Packard Co., The Walt Disney Co. and Apple Inc. Prior to Web Associates, he served as chief technology officer of 12Snap, a provider of mobile commerce applications, and as head of the European E-Strategy team for system integrator Novell/Cambridge Technology Partners.

Shopatron, which changed its name from FirePoppy a year ago, has a client list that includes Thule, Salomon, Nordica, Alex Toys, Berkley Fishing, Johnson Outdoors and Brooks Running.
