Google grows search market share for ninth consecutive month
Google gained search market share for the ninth consecutive month in April, maintaining the top position with 43.1% of all U.S. searches conducted on its site, comScore Networks Inc. reports. That compares with a 42.7% market share in March and a 36.5% market share in April 2005.
Americans conducted 6.6 billion online searches in April, up 4% from April, comScore said.
Consumers performed 2.9 billion search queries on Google, followed by 1.9 billion on Yahoo sites, 858 million on MSN-Microsoft, 457 million on the Time-Warner network, and 384 million on the Ask Jeeves/Ask Network, according to comScore.
In addition to Google sites, market share by search in April this year and April 2005 was:
Yahoo Sites, 28.0%, 30.7%
MSN-Microsoft Sites, 12.9%, 16.1%
Time-Warner Network, 6.9%, 9.0%
Ask Jeeves/Ask Network 5.8%, 6.1%
Google and Yahoo also continued to dominate the toolbar search market, with a combined share of 95%. Google accounted for 48% of toolbar searches and Yahoo for 47.6%. comScore said.
