Fred`s Inc. Chooses SPS Commerce to Enable Electronic Connectivity Throughout Its Supply Chain
ST. PAUL, Minn., June 26 -- SPS Commerce, the leading Supply
Chain Integration Service provider, announced today that Fred`s Inc.
(Nasdaq/NM: FRED) has contracted with SPS to enable electronic transactions
with all trading partners throughout its supply chain.
As a leading discount general merchandise retailer operating more than 370
stores and pharmacies throughout 11 southeastern states, Fred`s has an
expansive supplier base that enables its stores to carry a wide variety of
products at a competitive price. By implementing SPS Commerce`s Supply Chain
Integration Service, Fred`s will be able to facilitate electronic
transactions, including advanced shipping notices, with all of its trading
partners.
"SPS Commerce allows us to standardize the way we conduct business with
our suppliers and ensures that we can electronically place and receive orders
with more than 800 small- and mid-sized enterprises that are new to the world
of e-commerce," said Fred`s Inc. Tax Director Bill Duff. "We anticipate that
electronically automating our entire supply chain will improve efficiencies
and streamline the flow of information."
Fred`s Inc. chose SPS` hosted Internet solution because it allows the
company to conduct e-commerce with all trading partners regardless of how
advanced its partners` technology infrastructures are. By using a service
solution such as SPS` to address order fulfillment needs with its suppliers,
Fred`s does not have to maintain additional financial, staffing or maintenance
resources associated with many alternative e-commerce solutions.
SPS Commerce is a proven leader in business-to-business e-commerce
solutions for the retail and general merchandise communities. Fred`s joins
several other major merchandisers, including Target, Kmart and Fingerhut,
which rely on SPS Commerce`s services for supply chain efficiency. Retailers
choose SPS Commerce for its innovative, cost-effective solutions and proven
return-on-investment.
"As more and more companies understand the business value of a fully
automated supply chain, they realize a hosted solution is one of the quickest
and least resource intensive ways to reach universal supply chain
connectivity," said Jim Frome, executive vice president and chief strategy
officer of SPS Commerce, Inc. "We are pleased to work with Fred`s and its
suppliers as they continue to expand their e-commerce programs and grow their
business throughout the southern region."
