Leading Multi-Channel Retailers Deploy Blue Martini eCRM Applications Built On Sun Platform

Belk, Canadian Tire and Mountain Equipment Co-op Among Retailers Using

Combined Solution to Drive Profitable Interactions With Customers

SAN MATEO, Calif., (June 26, 2001)-- Blue Martini Software, Inc., and Sun Microsystems, today announced that many leading multi-channel retailers are deploying external customer relationship management (eCRM) applications from Blue Martini Software on the Sun platform. Customers such as Belk, Inc., Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited, Gymboree, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) and Saks Fifth Avenue are using the solution to integrate their channels to the customer and leverage the information to provide more efficient service and increase revenues.

The Blue Martini 4 eCRM application suite helps companies understand, target and interact with customers and business partners. Today, Blue Martini Software`s eCRM applications are used across every popular touch point, including stores, wireless devices, call centers and websites. The suite is written in Java and is available on the Sun platform, and is made up of four tightly integrated and modular applications that address key business functions: marketing, commerce, channel management and service.

Belk, Inc., is the largest privately owned U.S. department store chain, with 200 stores in 13 states. Belk deployed the Blue Martini application suite on the Sun platform with wireless technology, to power its online gift registry. The solution allows our customers to scan a product`s barcode, choose a quantity and enter the item into their gift registry. Currently, 156 Belk stores use the kiosks containing the online gift registry that provides instant access to nearly 186,000 products through belk.com.

The $5.2 billion Canadian Tire Corporation, Canada`s most-shopped retailer, uses Blue Martini eCRM applications on the Sun platform to power its award-winning Web site -- Canada`s third busiest -- and customer call center. Canadian Tire selected this solution to replicate the consistent buying experience that its 438 retail stores are renowned for providing on its Web site.

"We are creating an e-business program that reflects the tremendous brand loyalty Canadians have to Canadian Tire and their high expectations for our service. Blue Martini Software provides us a comprehensive solution enabling us to deliver on those expectations," said Mark Foote, president, Canadian Tire Retail.

Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) launched a unique site using Blue Martini Software and Sun. The site supplements direct-selling with socially and environmentally responsible information. MEC is a Canadian retail co-operative owned and directed by its members, that provides products and services for self-propelled wilderness activities at the lowest reasonable price.

"After an exhaustive search, we were convinced that Blue Martini Software and Sun had the optimal solution to merge our environmental messages with sales to best serve our members," said Georgette Parsons, CIO at MEC. "MEC already had a successful phone sales and catalog business and we wanted to integrate online transactions with this existing infrastructure to ensure operational efficiencies."

"By partnering with Sun, Blue Martini Software has been able to offer our customers a platform that scales to meet the needs of our customers," said Catherine Harding, director, retail industry at Blue Martini Software. "The success of this relationship is evidenced by the quality of eCRM applications from Blue Martini Software and the value that our customers are realizing every day."

"Traditional companies and dot.coms alike have now realized that a successful multi-channel strategy is essential for future growth and viability. To enable this, it means that new technologies must be leveraged and channels integrated," said Bob Delaney, group manager, worldwide retail markets at Sun Microsystems. "By providing the customer with more choice on how they buy, and then better service based on their unique shopping preferences, retailers and customers alike will win."

The Blue Martini 4 application suite is built on Java technology and supports open standards. It provides the high performance, 24-by-7 availability, legacy integration and ease of management that companies need for building and deploying mission-critical eCRM ventures. The Blue Martini 4 suite offers pre-built adapters for integrating external systems and leading applications such as SAP, Agile, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Ariba, Commerce One and Siebel, and popular enterprise application integration solutions.
