Barewalls may be filling up rapidly

Moulding and frames wholesaler Missouri Moulding and Glass Inc., parent of Barewalls Interactive Art Inc., is in the midst of completing two contracts that would greatly increase the number of products on and sales potential of its Barewalls.com e-commerce site.

Missouri Moulding and Glass is working on a partnership with ArtAffairs/WebAffairs, a Canadian web devlopment company that has developed and operates more than 700 web and e-commerce sites. Barewalls Interactive Art expects this move would double its production of frames and posters. Missouri Moulding and Glass also is in negotiations with a “major retailer” to supply that company’s e-commerce site with Barewalls prints and posters; the major retailer has more than five million active accounts, Barewalls Interactive says.

“MMG discovered that other companies are looking for the same inventory management and production systems it has in place for Barewalls.com. Consequently, MMG and Barewalls are trying to leverage our existing infrastructure,” says Chris Nohr, vice president.

As part of its growth plans, Barewalls is finishing the expansion of its office and manufacturing facility. When completed at the end of June, the company will have 38,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 3,000 square feet of office space. This represents an increase of 21,000 total square feet to its existing space.

Launched in 1996, pure-play Barewalls Interactive Art, No. 426 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, inked $7.3 million in sales last year, a 16% jump over $6.3 million in 2004, according to Internet Retailer estimates. The e-retailer carries more than a quarter million posters and prints, including fine art, photography, movie posters, vintage advertising and others. It also offers custom framing options.
