A different kind of web portal: Garage doors online
For those who think you can buy anything online, here’s further proof: DoorMart, a Houston-based retailer of custom garage doors, is developing an e-commerce web site where consumers nationwide will be able to design and order custom-made garage doors online. DoorMart expects the site to be live Oct. 1.
"We have been generating significant sales volumes for garage doors and garage door parts from all over the world through our web site for almost two years now," said George Papagua, president of DoorMart. "Most of these sales are consummated over the phone. We are determined to allow our web site visitors to fully customize their garage doors and place an order, with the entire transaction completed online."
DoorMart is working with Houston-based ProActive Computer Services Inc. to re-design the web site to make it transaction-capable.
"Many of our competitors sell garage door parts online," said Papagua. "Our new web site will be unique because visitors will be able to configure and purchase entire doors online. Every aspect of the garage door will be customizable online, from the size and color of the door to the shape of the windows. We will deliver and even install the door if the customer chooses."
“From the beginning, DoorMart has treated their Internet strategy as an integral part of their overall business model and not just a sideline,” said Carey W. Cooley, president and CEO of ProActive, which has been hosting DoorMart’s non-transaction site. “Their success proves that if you have quality products and solid customer service, you can sell just about anything online."
