AOL’s e-mail system crashed late this morning, leaving millions of messages stuck in a queue. AOL asked e-mailers to refrain from sending messages into the system until the problem is fixed.
The system failure affected both AOL.com e-mail for paid subscribers and its free AIM.com service. The company said it has not determined the cause of the problem.
AOL said it would announce when the system is back in operation.
As of March 31, AOL had 18.6 million U.S. subscribers and 43 million active users of its AIM instant-messaging service.
