Ken Surdan has been named senior vice president of technology at TripAdvisor LLC, which operates several travel-related web sites. Surdan, who had been chief operating officer and chief technology officer at online discount site Smart Bargains, will lead the company’s engineering and I.T. teams.

TripAdvisor sites include bookingbuddy.com, cruisecritic.com, independenttraveler.com, seatguru.com, smartertravel.com, travel-library.com and travelpod.com. Content on the site has doubled to 10 million reviews and opinions in the past year, the company says.
